Long renowned for its shopping centre, Jurong East is set to undergo a facelift with the revamp of JCube, the former shopping mall. The site will be transformed into a condominium residence and business park to meet the needs of the Jurong Lake District (JLD).
JCube, the former shopping mall, will be replaced by a new condominium residence, modified to fit the needs of the JLD. The condominium residence is planned to have up to 400 units and will be equipped with modern amenities. Future residents will be able to enjoy a variety of new and exciting retail, dining and entertainment options.
The development of the new business park will create more business opportunities and employment in the area. The new businesses will include industrial, research and development, educational institutions, and commercial spaces. This will provide a new and unique business environment for the JLD, one that is more conducive to the fostering of innovation and new ideas.
At the same time, the new condominium residence and business park will provide more recreational and leisure options for the area. JCube will be integrated with the existing Jurong Lake Gardens, creating a green space that is accessible to both the new residence and business park. This will encourage greater social interaction and community activity.
The revamp of JCube is part of the larger plan to transform the JLD into an integrated and vibrant hub for businesses, research, education and leisure. The redevelopment of JCube is expected to be completed by 2021 and will bring about positive changes to the area.
The redevelopment of JCube is an exciting move for the JLD, as it will create more opportunities for businesses and residents alike. The new condominium residence and business park will create a unique atmosphere in the area, one that is conducive to innovation, growth and development. With the revamp of JCube, the JLD is sure to become an even more vibrant and exciting place to live, work and play.
Jurong East’s JCube shopping centre will soon be making way for a new residential and commercial development. The mall, owned by CapitaLand Development (Singapore) (CLD), will be closing its doors on August 7, 2023, and will be replaced by a new residential development that will include commercial space on the first and second storeys.
The news of the closure came as a surprise to many of the retail staff working at JCube and its tenants. Some were only made aware of the news through social media, while others have known about the closure since last year. CLD stated that notices were sent by registered mails and emails to the authorised representatives of JCube tenants, before a news release was issued around noon on Feb 7, 2023 to inform shoppers and the general public about the redevelopment.
The new JCube Condo Residence and new businesses will be JCube Condo completed in 2027 and will feature a sales launch in the second half of 2023. CLD has been providing tenants with the necessary support to ensure a smooth handover of the premises, and is currently in the midst of reaching out to individual tenants directly for the same.
The closure of JCube marks the end of an era for many long-time shoppers, staff and tenants. Many of them had become accustomed to the mall and its services. Ms Shima, a 29-year-old sales assistant at The Cake Shop, had worked at the mall for more than five years and also lived nearby. Frankly speaking, it’s a bit sad. I’ve been passing by this mall almost every day. I stay nearby; my secondary school is nearby. I can still remember the days we’d come here to ice skate and watch movies, she said.
The redevelopment of JCube is a sign of progress and a reflection of the changing times. It is hoped that the new JCube Condo Residence and new businesses will bring about new opportunities for people in the area and bolster the local economy.
